Quite simply, the course. Competitive runners will relish the long straightaways, gentle turns and course elevation. Come and set your PR at Surftown.

For those less concerned about their finish time, come to drink in the beauty of the area. Misquamicut features miles of sand, surf and sun and is the perfect family destination. Watch Hill is truly a step back in time with its picturesque lighthouse, impressive Victorian homes and gabled cottages that look out over the beach to both Block Island Sound and Little Narragansett Bay.

We promise you a memorable race. You will want to make the Surftown Half an annual tradition.


5K Athletes cannot exit Misquamicut State Beach parking area before 8:30 AM. Any athlete leaving before 10:30 AM must use this route.

Post-Race Festivities

Enjoy New England Clam Chowder from Paddy’s Beach Club and refuel with an ice cold Grey Sail beer at the finish line. Limit one beer per athlete with proper I.D.

Spectators may enjoy an all-you-can-eat breakfast for only $10 (plus tax and tip) at Paddy’s. Buffet includes Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, French Toast, Homefries, Assorted Pastries/Bagels and Fresh Fruit.

Your runner's bib gives you FREE admission to the Misquamicut Fall Fest, full of amusements, international food vendors, crafts and more!

Store your belongings safely and access them easily any time before and after the race with Blue Trailer’s new mobile locker service. Storage in this facility will be on a first come first serve basis. Blue Trailer is fully staffed and conveniently parked near the start line for you!


The Surftown Half Marathon & 5K is offering real-time athlete updates on Facebook, Twitter and SMS for free. Athletes or spectators can search and select an athlete and receive real-time updates with course time and pace from the splits and the finish line.

Please note:

Athletes who have recently registered for the Half Marathon and 5K may not be immediately available in the Athlete Tracking system. Please allow up to 48 hours from the time of race registration for the participant to appear in the Athlete Tracking system. This event is timed by Bay State Race Services and uses the B-Tag timing system (timing chip is attached to the back of your race bib). Please wear your race bib on the front of your shirt.  Please click on the image to the left for more details.

  • All registered runners in the Half Marathon and 5K will receive a finisher medal.

logo_RI_road_runnersOur pace teams, sponsored by the Rhode Island Road Runners, is here to support you in achieving your finish goal at the Surftown Half! The Pace Team is available to you, free of charge. Click here for detailed information regarding pace teams.

A pace team is a group of runners led by an experienced long distance runner known as the pace group leader. The pace group leader will coach the pace team runners to their set time goal. The leader will run a steady pace throughout the race that keeps runners on track of their marathon goal time.  Click here to meet your pace leaders.

On race day it’s easy to find your pace leader. All pace leaders are located in the start staging area before the race start and will be holding their respective pace sign. Pace leaders will be wearing a highly visible race singlet.

Pace Leaders will be available for 1:30, 1:45, 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, 2:45.

  • No early race start for any event
  • Congested roads with runners in both directions
  • Specific meeting area before and after race (if secured by partner organization)

Directions and Parking heading

Free parking for all athletes at Misquamicut State Beach. Please use Weekapaug Road to access Misquamicut State Beach.

Atlantic Avenue will close to traffic at 7:15 am.  Arrive early


The Hartford Marathon Foundation has an emergency texting service in place to be used in situations such as event cancellations or other emergencies where information needs to be delivered directly to you. We will be using this system for this event.

If we have changes to a race at the last minute, we can text you and inform you of the issue and what the plan is for the day of the race, and potentially save you time, money and sleep.

NOTE: We never use this information for anything other than real emergencies.
