Olde Burnside Brewing is synonymous with their popular flagship brew, "Ten Penny Ale" The microbrewery was founded in 2000 by the McClellan family of East Hartford, as a spinoff of their century-old ice manufacturing company, The Burnside Ice Co. "Ten Penny Ale" is a malty light Scottish ale style; for the darker palate, they brew a black'n'tan called "Dirty Penny Ale," and a rich wee heavy, "Ten Penny Ale Reserve," as well as distinctive seasonal offerings. Olde Burnside Brewing is pleased to sponsor The Ten Penny Ale Shamrock Duathlon, as well as The Hartford Wanderers Rugby Team, The Manchester Regional Police & Fire Pipe Band, and each September they host "The Pipes in the Valley" Celtic Music Festival on the riverfront in downtown Hartford.
