TD Banknorth   First Step Challenge

Try a new adventure this year that could change your life. Take 100 days to become physically fit enough to complete a 3 mile (5K) run or walk alongside other females. No experience necessary and you can do it close to home, alone, or with a group of people aiming for the same goal.  The Hartford Marathon Foundation has partnered with TD Banknorth to create the TD Banknorth 5K Challenge for the 2008 Red Dress Run for Women.

Beginning April 3rd, TD Banknorth customers, employees and residents will be encouraged to begin a 100-day training program and finish their first 5K run or walk at the Red Dress Run for Women on July 12th.  HMF has Training Programs for individuals to follow as well as training groups (meeting Tuesday or Saturday each week) to help women accomplish their goals.

Select TD Banknorth branches will have materials available for participants, including: walk/run routes, registration materials, and alternate ideas for inclement conditions. In addition, TD Banknorth will provide a unique gift to all TD Banknorth 5K Challenge finishers who train for the Red Dress Run through the Hartford Marathon Foundation training programs.   Read Press Release.

Taking care of your heart is more important than you might know. Too few people realize that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of American women -- and of men. About 460,000 women die of cardiovascular disease annually, more than the total number of cardiovascular disease-related deaths in men or the next four causes of death combined.

But the good news is that heart disease is often preventable.

  • Just for women - race t-shirts with a custom cut.
  • FREE SHUTTLE - TO and FROM the parking lot at UConn on Troutbrook Drive.

  • POCKETBOOK EXCHANGE - How many pocketbooks do you own? And don't you just love a new pocketbook?  If you are like us, you have enough pocketbooks in your closet to line the 5K route.  So, let's trade 'em at the race and do some good for kids at the same time.  Bring as many purses as you like to the race.  Put a $5 bill in each one.  The $5 will be donated to the Hartford Marathon Youth Running Project which gets kids into running and exercise.  Then, pick out another purse in exchange.  One for one.  What fun!
