Team MAD Announces
AmericanWarrior
as its 2010 Beneficiary

Team MAD (Make a Difference) was founded in 2006 as a way for a group of athletes to train together for an endurance event (this year it will be the  ING Hartford Marathon in October) as a way to raise funds for local non-profit organizations.  Team MAD is dedicated to making a positive impact on the local communities of Connecticut through its continued fund raising.
Each year the group seeks out and accepts inspiring applicants who apply to receive funds to expand and continue their organizational activities.  Over the past four years Team MAD has trained 160 runners and has risen over $100,000 for local charities.  Past beneficiaries have been the Connecticut Down Syndrome Congress, My Sisters’ Place and the St. Francis Neo-Natal Unit.
American Warrior

This year Team MAD is proud to announce their selected charity for 2010 as American Warrior.  While Team MAD received many worthwhile charity applicants it was ultimately American Warrior that won the vote and hearts of the Team MAD organization.  American Warrior helps to bring the historic heroes of our past, World War II veterans, in touch with a legacy of bravery and courage that is memorialized in Washington DC.

Many of the veterans who will benefit from American Warrior’s mission have never visited and been honored by the memorials put in place in honor of their service and dedication.  So far American Warrior has sent 420 veterans to see their memorial.

Upon hearing the news that they were selected founder Christopher Coutu said, “We are excited to be chosen as the 2010 beneficiary by the runners of Team MAD.  Their enthusiasm and dedication, combined with our passion for honoring WWII Veterans will enable us to send 200-300 heroes on a long awaited “Day of Honor”.  The trip is much more than just a one day event, its Connecticut’s way of honoring the 16 million men and women who fought in WWII and the 400,000 who lost their lives protecting America.”

Spotlight on Team Tobati Team Tobatí is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged youth in Tobatí, Paraguay while at the same time offering young American students the powerful experience of working directly for a greater good in the developing world.
With the active support of Tobatí community leaders and organizations, the Team constructs classrooms and schools, funds important social programs, and supports medical services and initiatives. Each March, 100+ high school volunteers from Kingswood-Oxford school spend two weeks in Tobatí working extensively on dozens of projects, which strengthen the medical and education infrastructure offered to the region's poor.

Team Tobatí's aid to the region is not limited to the service trips. Throughout the entire year the Team finances significant development projects that make improvements in all areas of community life. The team's mission is exemplified by the Macchi School. This institution, 100% funded by the Team, provides the best education in the state of Cordillera, Paraguay and does so exclusively for the poorest students in the region. Team Tobatí teaches both American and Paraguayan youth that when working together todo es posible.

Team in Training

In 2008, Team In Training (TNT), the world's largest sports endurance training program, celebrates its 20th year of saving lives, one mile at a time. Since 1988, more than 360,000 TNT participants have raised more than $850 million for lifesaving cancer research and services to help blood cancer patients live longer, better lives. Now, we're aiming for the $1 billion mark, and you can help make it happen!

We train runners, walkers, cyclists and triathletes of all fitness levels to complete half and full marathons, century rides and triathlons. In exchange for training and support, participants fundraise to help support the Society's mission: To cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
