Races awarding prize money are sanctioned by USA Track & Field. To conform to national and international rules sanctioned events may only award prize money to those athletes with valid USATF membership. Prize money checks are issued within four (4) weeks after the event and only if all elite paperwork is complete and submitted to the Race Office. The total prize purse awards $60,000 to top finishers in the Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K. |

The New England’s Finest bonus money corresponds to the finishing place of invited program participants: for example, in 2008 men’s marathon winner Pat Moulton, of Providence, RI received $3,000 for the overall win and an additional $3,000 in corresponding first-place bonus $. On the women’s side, fourth place finisher Diona Fulton of Somerville, MA won $750 and the fourth-place NEF bonus of $500. | Travel Expense Eligibility and Regulations |
Travel expense funds are limited and based on the discretion of the race director. Athletes must be registered for the Marathon or Half Marathon by September 1, 2010 to qualify for travel expense money. Athletes will be notified in writing prior to race date if they are eligible to receive travel expense money. Eligibility is based on Marathon or Half Marathon performances within the past 24 months and returning winners of the ING Hartford Marathon.
Marathon Travel Expenses:
The maximum travel expense money reimbursed to a marathon runner is $150. Travel expenses are only reimbursed to those athletes who are selected as one of New England's Finest and have completed the full Marathon and placed within the top 10 overall men/women or the top 3 marathon masters men/women.
Travel expenses will be reimbursed to athletes once the Hartford Marathon receives original receipts for travel. (bus, train, air, taxi receipts). Payment will be made after the competition. No travel expenses will be reimbursed to athletes who fail to complete their event.
Half Marathon Travel Expenses:
The maximum travel expense money to be reimbursed to a Half Marathon runner is $150. Travel expenses are only reimbursed to those athletes who are selected as one of New England's Finest and have completed the Half Marathon and placed within the top 5 overall men/women.

| Federal Income Tax Withholding on Prize Money |
- To avoid a 30% tax on your prize money, US and Resident Foreign Athletes must possess a Social Security # and submit a copy of his/her Social Security Card.
- Non-Resident Athletes are subject to a 30% Federal Income Tax withholding
