ING Hartford Marathon is excited to offer a new service in partnership with BazuMedia to provide live SMS text messaging services to athletes and fans at this year’s event! |
The service allows athletes to opt in for a minimal fee and provide cell phone numbers for themselves, spectators, friends, family and coaches to receive real time splits and progress summaries throughout the race. Split times will be delivered at several checkpoints on the course including 10K, 20K, 20 mile and a Finish Line message. Spectators and fans will be able to sign up online or at the race expo to receive updates about their friends and loved ones on the course. It's a much better way to know how to find someone after a race or how to best position yourself on the course as your athlete passes by.
| The service works in tandem with the existing timing system used at the event. As athletes timing chips are read on the course, course times are collected, calculated and delivered to cell carriers that deliver the message to users over the very speedy SMS gateway. On average, messages are delivered within 10-20 seconds of an athlete crossing a timing mat on the race course. |
