Race Number:
All participants must be registered and must prominently wear the race number on the front of the shirt.


Seeded Start:
Runners who submitted a Seeded Start Application will receive instructions in an email confirmation on September 30.  Read details on Seeded Starts page.


Parking:

5K RUNNERS:
If you plan to leave downtown Hartford before 11 a.m., you must park in the following locations in order to get out of the area:

  • State of Connecticut parking lot at 165 Capitol Ave. - exit east to Hudson Street to the Conlin Whitehead Hywy.
  • Surface lots or garages near the XL Center (formerly the Hartford Civic Center) - you will be able to access I-84 east or west or travel west on city streets.

These lots may fill up quickly - plan to arrive early.

Baggage Check:
Baggage check is available.  Look for the UPS trucks located by the Pump House Restaurant near the rotary.


Family Meeting Area:
The McDonald's Rock Wall is the 2008 "Family Meeting Area".  After the race, this is the perfect spot to meet your family and friends in Bushnell Park.   

Awards:
All awards are distributed on race day at the Awards Tent located adjacent to the Merchandise Tent.
 

If you have placed in the top 3 in your division, please stop by the Awards Tent to receive your commemorative award.  Information on specific awards is provided by division: Full Marathon, Half Marathon, Huck Finn 5K and Kids K.  

If you place in your division or age group and do not pick up your prize on race day, you may request your award to be mailed by sending $8 (check only - to cover shipping and handling) along with your name, address and bib number to the Race Office.   


Photographs:
All finisher photographs are taken by Island Photography.

Headphones:
We strongly recommend no headphones.  Keeping runners safe is a priority concern. The 2008 ING Hartford Marathon will have live music every 1/2 mile on the course - that's over 50 music locations for your listening pleasure.  For this reason, the use of headphones is strongly discouraged.  

Showers:
Showers are available for all runners at the new YMCA in the XLCivic Center.  Runners must show bib to be eligible for a FREE shower.


Massage:
The Connecticut AMTA Sports Massage Therapy Team and the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy will offer massages for runners in Bushnell Park. Free of charge, first-come, first-served basis.

The average high temperature for mid-October is 64°F (18°C). The average low is 40°F. Spectacular autumn foliage will be at its peak on race weekend.

Fluids:

Fluid Station Locations:
MARATHON:
Mile 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, 6, 7, 8.5, 9.5, 10.5, 11, 12.5, 13.5, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 25 and 26

HALF MARATHON: Mile 2,5, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 ,9, 10, 11 and 12


Lost & Found:
Lost and Found children are hosted at the Information Tent in Bushnell Park.

Information on runners under medical care is available at the Information Tent.

UPS Baggage Area holds lost & found clothing and other items.  All items not claimed by 1:00 pm on race day will be donated to local shelters.


Emergencies:
Notify the Water Station Captain, HAM radio operator or uniformed police officer. They will contact proper authorities.  In addition, there are trained medical professional on bikes along the course and a medical station at Mile 22.  The primary medical station is located at the Finish Line. The Medical Aid Stations and Medical Personnel is supported by Hartford Hospital. 

Medical personnel   will be wearing white shirts marked with a red medical symbol.  
Marathon/ Communication personnel   will be wearing bright yellow shirts marked with "Communications" and will have ham radios and phones to contact emergency personnel quickly.
Police officers   will be located at all intersections where traffic intersects the course.  Plus, officers will be patrolling the course.
Volunteers   There are hundreds of volunteers on marathon weekend.  Most are not associated with the event except for one weekend a year.  Please understand that they may not have answers to all your questions.  However in an emergency, do not hesitate to go to a volunteer for assistance as they may know how to get help quickly.  Plus, some volunteers will have communication equipment.

Medical Help:
Hartford Hospital provides top notch medical service to the Hartford Marathon.  A fully staffed medical tent is located at the start/finish area.  Trained medical personnel are stationed along the course and every water station at each mile has radio communication to the Medical Director.

Information on any runner being treated can be obtained at the Information Booth in Bushnell Park.
