Support on Course

COURSE AMENITIES

Water and carbo fluid stations are at mile 2, mile 4 and every mile after on the Marathon and Half Marathon courses.  
Vital H2O is the official on-course fluid.

The 5K fluid station will dispense Vital H2O™ water.
Water is also available at the race start and finish line. 

  

RUNNER PERKS

  • News All entrants will receive a moisture wicking shirt at packet pickup (no cotton shirt will be issued).  The technical shirts offered in 2010 are made from environmentally responsible fabrics from Greenlayer Sports. Greenlayer Sports is a company founded by endurance athletes that are as passionate about our sport and our environment as we are.  Greenlayer shirts are soft performance base layer, moisture wicking, UV protection, soft seams. A perfect piece for training, the gym, or racing. Made from 100% Recycled Polyester or a combination of Bamboo Charcoal and Recycled Poly. "Relaxed fit". 
  • Free admission to Health & Fitness Expo at the XL Center (formerly the Hartford Civic Center)
  • Medals and certificates to all marathon finishers

  • Shower facilities - available at YMCA facilities located on 2nd floor of XL Center
  • Free massages to runners on first-come, first-serve basis compliments of Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy and the Connecticut Association of Massage Therapists

FLUIDS

Hammer Gel™ will be located at Mile 1 and Mile 7 (Half) and unique to the ING Hartford Marathon: Hammer Gel™ on Demand – our course bicyclists will carry Hammer Gel™ on their bikes to be given as needed along the course.

PLEASE DON’T LITTER ALONG THE COURSE – DISPOSE OF CUPS AND PACKS IN RECEPTACLES PROVIDED.

FLUID STATION LOCATIONS
MARATHON: Mile 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 6, 8, 9.5, 10.5, 11.5, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 18.5, 19, 20.5, 22, 23, 24, and 25
HALF MARATHON: Mile 2, 3, 4.5, 6, 7, 8.5, 10, 11.5 

INJURED RUNNERS
  • Injured runners will be transported either to the Medical Unit at the finish line or to Hartford Hospital (emergency phone: 860-545-5000).
  • All runners are asked to help by reporting injuries or downed runners to fluid station personnel or route monitors along the course.

DROP OUT RUNNERS
  • Runners unable to finish the race may stop at any fluid station along the course for assistance.
  • Sweep vans pick up runners when possible and drop them off at the finish area.
  • Do not cross the finish line with your D-Tag on your shoe if you have not completed the entire race distance for which you are entered.
  • If you drop out of the race, remove your D-Tag from your shoe and dispose it before crossing the finish line.

SAG VEHICLES
  • Several vehicles will patrol the marathon course to transport fatigued runners to the finish area in Bushnell Park.
  • Should you want transportation, report to a fluid station and you will receive further instructions.

RULES OF THE ROAD

► We strongly recommend no headphones.  Keeping runners safe is a priorty concern. For this reason, the use of headphones is strongly discouraged.
► No one is allowed on the course without a properly issued race number.
► Spectators must stay clear of the course and off the roads to avoid interfering with the runners.
► Spectators - Please watch your children at all times. There will be thousands of participants and spectators at the events.
► Bikers should stay well off the course and watch for spectators as much as for runners.
► No vehicles of any kind are allowed on the course. The course can be crossed only at designated intersections.
► No dogs allowed on the course.  Spectators - Please keep your dogs at home for the safety of runners and other spectators.
