Dog Star Rescue

Dog Star Rescue, a non-profit, volunteer-run organization, is a dog rescue organization based out of the Hartford CT area. We take in owner surrenders right here in CT, and also work closely with established partner shelters Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Louisiana to save the lives of loving and loyal dogs who have lost their way and find themselves on death row. Our team of wonderful volunteers get these adoptable dogs the medical and emotional care they need so they can transition into a loving forever home. To date we’ve placed over 8,000 dogs with new, forever families and we are so proud of the difference we are making in the world.

Waterbury Promise Inc.

Established in late 2021 in collaboration with the City of Waterbury and Waterbury Public Schools, Waterbury Promise is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building a generation of college graduates in Waterbury. Girls on the Run Greater CT

Girls on the Run (GOTR) Greater CT inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using fun, experience-based curricula that creatively integrates running. As the only national physical activity-based, positive youth development (PA-PYD) program for girls with a research-based curriculum, trained coaches, and a commitment to serving all girls, GOTR makes a stronger impact than organized sports and physical education programs in teaching life skills such as managing emotions, resolving conflict, helping others, and making intentional decisions. The program’s unique, intentional suite of curricula is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological, and physical skills and behaviors to successfully navigate life experiences. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and completing a celebratory 5K. The 5K is designed to empower girls by giving them the opportunity to set and accomplish a goal. Successfully crossing the finish line provides a tangible sense of achievement, boosting their confidence and inspiring them to pursue other life goals.

Miracle League of Northern Connecticut

The Miracle League of Northern CT provides opportunities for children and adults with physical and cognitive challenges to participate in recreational activities in an accessible, nurturing and non-competitive environment where families can come together to cultivate new friendships and experience the joy of play. Miracle League encourages peer buddies and adult mentors to assist and encourage the athletes as needed.

We currently offer youth soccer, baseball and bowling for youth and adults. We have a partnership with Tri-Town Gymnastics that offers a gymnastic program and Tolland 4H that offers Kickball. We have a yearly dance party to celebrate our athletes, buddies and families!

The Miracle League Field is located in Vernon Connecticut at Northeast School has a synthetic soft turf surface that is fully wheelchair accessible. Soccer boundaries, bases and pitching mound are painted onto the surface so that there are no raised obstacles that you would find on a typical sports field. The dug outs are enlarged to accommodate wheelchairs and other apparatus. The goal is to make this field appear as similar as possible to a typical sports field while allowing accessibility and safety for all.

Project Purple

Project Purple is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering the fight against pancreatic cancer. Our commitment is fueled by a mission to raise awareness, drive crucial research, and provide direct aid to patients battling the disease. Since our founding in 2010, we have led the charge in pioneering advancements and bringing hope to those affected. The Ron Foley Foundation was founded in memory of Ron Foley, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in October 2005. SUN Scholars Inc.

SUN Scholars Inc. supports Connecticut’s foster and adopted youth pursuing college, trade school, and careers by hiring alumni of the child welfare system to provide academic coaching and mentorship services. Uniquely, SUN was founded by former foster youth, and all direct-service staff at SUN have lived experience in foster care with the intention of being a part of the community that we serve. While nationally only 6% of foster youth earn a college degree, SUN has helped Connecticut achieve one of the highest post-secondary graduation rates for foster and adopted youth in the country.

Forty-three years ago, a sisterly promise ignited a spark that would fuel a global crusade against breast cancer. Today that promise continues to prevail as the driving force behind Susan G. Komen’s unwavering quest for a future free from the grip of this deadly disease.

In the pursuit of our goals, we’ve helped fuel research, unlocking the biology of breast cancer and discovering insights that propel us toward more effective risk reduction strategies, earlier detection methods and innovative treatments. This has helped reduce the breast cancer mortality rate by 44% since 1989.

To date, we’ve invested nearly $3.6 billion in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 60 countries. Over the past 30 years, 29 new breast cancer-fighting drugs were made possible in part due to Komen research funding.
