COACHES

Running coaches aren’t just for experienced runners. A skilled coach will challenge you and guide you to achieve your goals. A coach will design a training plan for your specific fitness level, work with you to optimize your performance and make sure your injury risk is minimized. Just like there are many different running styles, there are many different coaching styles, so it may take you a few tries to find your best coach. Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) certifies coaches who work with runners of all ages and abilities.

Here are some tips when looking for a coach and a list of CT based coaches:

  • Ask potential coaches for their qualifications and references
  • Look for a coach that has certification and training. For example, Road Runners’ Club of America (RRCA) certifies coaches through programs that emphasize the use of personalized training plans, designed to help a runner achieve their goals, while minimizing the risks of injuries.
  • Decide if you want a coach that will work with you one-on-one, in a group or online.
  • Know Your Goals.
  • Know Yourself – what motivates you and gets you out the door to run?
  • Know Your Limits
    • How much money can you spend a month?
    • How much time can you spend on training?
  • Ask fellow runners for references.
  • Interview potential coaches before making a final decision.
