TRAINING PROGRAMS

Group training programs provide structure and guidance to help you meet your running goals. Most programs include at least one group meeting each week and provide guidance for training runs on your own between meetings. Look for a group that best fits your running experience, goals and schedule.

BIRD MARATHON TRAINING PROGRAM

Program Begins: MONDAY, June 6, 2022
Goal Race: Eversource Hartford Marathon on October 8, 2022

  • An 18 week training program of 5 workouts per week, including easy runs, speed work, long runs, and cross training. All running workouts can be modified for walk/run intervals.
  • Weekly emails from your coach about what you’ll be doing and why.
  • Team kickoff and pre-race calls with Coach Shane, as well as monthly workshops on everything from hydration to mental prep.
  • Group chat with your colleagues on the team for high fives, training questions, and bonus motivation.
  • The option to work with Coach Shane one on one for personalized training and weekly advice and support via text when you join Bird.
  • The Bird app to follow the training plan, track your progress, and communicate with your coach and team.
  • Free group runs at Fleet Feet West Hartford (Wednesdays at 6:15 pm / Saturdays at 8:30 am)

BIRD HALF MARATHON TRAINING PROGRAM

Goal Race: Eversource Hartford Half Marathon on October 8, 2022

  • A 12 week half marathon training program of 5-6 workouts per week, including easy runs, speed work, long runs, and cross training. All running workouts can be modified for walk/run intervals.
  • Weekly emails from your coach about what you’ll be doing and why.
  • Team kickoff and pre-race calls with Coach Shane, as well as monthly workshops on everything from hydration to mental prep for race day.
  • Group chat with your coach and teammates for high fives, training questions, and bonus motivation.
  • The option to work with Coach Shane one on one for personalized training and weekly advice and support via text.
  • The Bird app to follow the training plan, track your progress, and communicate with your coach and team.
  • Free group runs at Fleet Feet West Hartford (Wednesdays at 6:15 pm / Saturdays at 8:30 am)

FLEET FEET FALL HALF MARATHON TRAINING

Program Begins: SATURDAY, July 17, 2022 @ 7:30 AM at Fleet Feet, West Hartford.
Goal Race: Eversource Hartford Half Marathon on October 8, 2022

This 13 week program is open to first-time and repeat half marathoners, but it is not appropriate for the new runner who cannot run 7 miles at a minimum of a 12:00 pace (run/walk intervals are OK) before our first practice.

FLEET FEET FALL MARATHON TRAINING

Program Begins: SUNDAY, June 27, 2022 @ 6:30 AM at Fleet Feet, West Hartford
Goal Race: Eversource Hartford Marathon on October 8, 2022

This 16-week program is open to first-time and repeat marathoners, but it is not appropriate for the new runner who doesn’t have a solid base of training as we will run 10 miles during our first practice.
