FAQS
How do I complete a street?
Every street in CityStrides is broken up into a certain number of nodes (or checkpoints) depending on how long it may be. In order to finish a street, you must run or walk past each one of these nodes, before it is marked as completed.
Do I have to accomplish a certain number of streets each day?
NO! You can run or walk as many streets/miles as you want each day, it’s up to you! Just register for the event, sign up for the challenge on the CityStrides site, and then get tracking!
How do I know which streets haven’t been completed yet?
Visit the We Run CT CityStride Dashboard, then use the interactive community map to navigate to an area of Connecticut that you are interested in completing to see if it’s already been accomplished. A purple line will indicate an activity completed by a challenge member and therefore show which streets have already been checked off.
Do I still receive my shirt if I don’t complete a street each day?
YES! All registered participants are eligible to receive their shirt, regardless of how many streets/miles they complete. All participants can pick up their shirt in person or they have the option to wait and have it mailed to them following the conclusion of the challenge.
What happens if I run or walk outside of Connecticut?
Only streets completed in the 169 Connecticut towns will count towards the Individual and Community streets and town leaderboards. In addition, only the mileage from activities that originate in Connecticut, will count towards your distance totals. Any manually entered activity will not be supported by the challenge.
What if I’m already a member of CityStrides?
Great! Once you click the Challenge Link in your confirmation message, just sign into CityStrides using your existing account and then enter your unique code when prompted to do so, then you’ll be ready to take part in the challenge! All of your historical data will not be impacted, but during the challenge, only activities recorded during this time period will be used towards your status on the We Run CT Leaderboard.
Does my historical data on CityStrides count?
No. Only activities that are completed between Monday, June 2 and Sunday, June 8 will be counted towards the Community Goals and Individual Challenges. All of your historical data and data collected during the Challenge will still be available in your personal CityStrides account.
If you register and join the Challenge after June 2, any activity tracked during the Challenge window will still count towards your progress.
Will my CityStride privacy settings impact my data in the challenge?
Yes and no. Regardless of your privacy setting, any activity recorded in Connecticut during the challenge window will support your position on the individual leaderboard, and support the community effort. If you’ve selected: “Just Me” or “Friends,” your GPS route data will not be visible on the Interactive Community Map.
What if I don’t have a GPS watch or Smartphone?
Unfortunately, this challenge requires mapping your activities using a GPS compatibility device
ACTIVITY TRACKING
Record a run and/or walk activity on your CityStrides account between 12:00 AM on Monday, June 2 and 11:59 PM on Sunday, June 8, using one of the two following options:
- Option 1 – Sync a compatible wearable device with your CityStrides account prior to your first activity. Once synced, activities will be uploaded automatically to CityStrides (and into the challenge).
- Compatible with: Garmin / Coros / Suunto
- Option 2 – Don’t have a wearable device? No problem! Download one of the following free fitness trackers on your smartphone, then sync this account to your CityStrides account prior to your first activity. Once synced, record your activities on the app, and they will automatically upload to CityStrides (and into the challenge).
- Compatible with: Strava / MapMyFitness / Runkeeper
Everytime you upload a run or walk activity to your connected GPS tracking device, during the challenge window, it will automatically update your individual progress, as well as the community progress, and be reflected on the We Run CT CityStride Dashboard!
