A spectacular beach race featuring stunning views, the half marathon course runs along the ocean front streets of Misquamicut Beach and Watch Hill, RI. The Surftown Half Marathon, presented by Westerly Hospital, is a fast and flat destination race with a new start and finish venue in 2021. Take on 13.1 or split the distance with a buddy in a 2-person relay.

The 5K race offers a 3.1 mile beach run to remember! The fast course runs through the Misquamicut beach community.

All participants earn a funky beach-themed finisher medal and a high quality short sleeve technical shirt.

Give Back: Please help give back to the community that this event takes place in. Donations of nonperishable food will be collected at the packet pickups and on race day through the HMF Can drive, supported by Stop & Shop. The collection will benefit Jonnycake Center of Westerly, who provide food, clothing, educational, and financial assistance to those in need in the Westerly-Chariho area.

There are NO REFUNDS of registration fees, however, participants may choose to defer their race registration for any reason up to 14 days before the event. Policy Details

Effective May 18, 2021, per CDC guidance, face masks will not be required at outdoor events in Rhode Island. Keeping with state recommendations, runners, volunteers, spectators and staff will not be required to wear masks at any Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF) event. We encourage those more comfortable wearing masks to continue to do so and urge unvaccinated participants attending HMF Events to wear a face mask for their own safety and for the safety of those who have vulnerable conditions or weakened immune systems.

HMF will continue to maintain safety protocols at all events, including hand washing and sanitizing stations, modified water distribution and spacing of start and finish areas to allow social distance.

DETAILS

The race will adhere to state and local guidelines on outdoor event capacities, beginning with a social distanced race start format. After the race, participants will spread out to enjoy on-the-go snacks while they celebrate their accomplishments. Results will be posted online only at the conclusion of the event, times are based on chip time, there will be no gun time. Final results and divisions will be scored to include all runners.

SOCIAL DISTANCING & SAFETY MEASURES

The Hartford Marathon Foundation has always prioritized safety and security at events, and in these challenging conditions, no detail will be more important.

Each participant is expected to follow directions for all modified event requirements to adhere to state and federal guidelines including, but not limited to:

  • All participants must maintain at least 6 feet of spacing from others not in their party at all times, and 12 feet of spacing while running
  • Hand washing and sanitizing stations will be be available throughout the venue
  • Event flow and setup will be laid out to direct one way traffic and minimize participant interaction as much as possible – please pay attention and follow directions
